Second Day of World Port Tournament

Cuba is unable to beat the professional Japanballers, having been eliminated twice by them in the last two World Baseball Classics.  They didn’t have too much trouble dealing with the Japanese industrial players, tossing another shutout in their 8-0 win.  It is the second shutout in two games for Cuba, showing that Aroldis Chapman is not missed, at least for this tournament.  This time it was Maikel Folch who tossed seven innings of one hit ball.

The Netherlands was hoping to be competetive in this tournament but they were spanked by Taiwan 8-3 to fall to 0-2.  This is the second win by Taiwan and sets the stage for the game against Cuba where both teams will be undefeated.  A Taiwan victory would put a little pride in their step, after embarrassing losses to China in the last two major events and the troubling gambling crisis.  Hsin-Min Wang drove in three runs with a bases clearing double to lead the offense.  The Netherlands team is composed of many of the same players that shocked the world with their defeat of the Dominicans, but in the Netherlands they are now 0-2.  Eugene Kingsale and Sidney de jong got six of the eight hits for the Netherlands, but they need to get more offense from the other players.  Wen-Yang Liao threw five innings of five hit shutout ball to get the win.
