Italian League Update; Emilia Upsets Rimini

It’s always good for competetive balance when a lower level team can beat an upper level team.  Emilia did just that with their 2-0 shutout win over second place Rimini in the Italian baseball league.  Abraham Alvarez threw seven innings of shutout ball to outduel Rafael Garcia.  William Juarez then shut down the Rimini bats in the final two innings to pick up the save.  The only two runs were scored in the third inning on Taber Lee’s single and Mattia Reginato’s sacrifice fly.  Jake Blalock, the brother of Hank got a single in three trips to the plate for Emilia.

Some familiar Bay Sox names on the leader boards in the Italian League:

Eddy Garabito formerly of the Bay Sox is number two in average at .353.  Another ex-Bay Sox Ivannon Coffie is second in homeruns with 8.  Carlos Duran, who also played for the Bowie Bay Sox is the leader in hits with 48.  Somebody in the Italian League must be attending a lot of Bowie Bay Sox games, or perhaps the word spread among ex-Bay Sox players who could not make it to the major leagues that Italy was another place to pursue their career.  Manny Alexander is also playing in the league.  Manny was supposed to be the heir to Cal Ripken after he left the shortstop position, but things didn’t work out too well for Manny.
