The Eagles and Giants Split

The Rakuten Golden Eagles won the third game 5-1, collecting 13 hits while Manabu Mima restricted the Giant bats to four hits in five plus innings.  Despite the excellent outing by Mima, Kenny Ray was called on to get the last out of the sixth inning and then worked two more innings to get it to Takashi Saito to close out the ninth.  Ray gave up a solo shot to Kenji Yano in the eighth.

Toshiya Sugiuchi could not get past the second inning as the Eagles assaulted him for six hits and four runs.  Kazuya Fujita and Ginji Akaminai each clubbed two run doubles in the second innning to help give Sugiuchi an early exit.

Andrew Jones drove in the last run for the Eagles in the eighth, the last of three straight singles.

The Giants bounced back in game four winning 6-5.  Takayuki Terauchi broke a 5-5 tie with an RBI single in the seventh.  The big bat for the Giants was Hisayoshi Chono, who went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs.  Chono had an RBI single in the fourth and a 2-run double in the fifth.

The Eagles got to the Giants quick after a 3-run homer by Andrew Jones in the first inning.  Giants starter Dennis Houlton only lasted three innings after giving up four runs.  The bullpen held the Eagle bats in check on four hits, Scott Mathieson working two innings to get the win and Tetsuya Yamaguchi working a perfect ninth to pick up the save.
