Mexican League Update

Myworld with the first update of the Mexican Winter League.

Narenjeros de Hermosillo (12-2)

The Narenjeros are undefeated at home (7-0).  They are getting run production from Efron Navarro (.174, 1, 11) and Carlos Gastelum (.278, 2, 11).  The power is coming from Jessie Gutierrez (.220, 5, 9).  Jose Aguilar (.341, 0, 4) and Jerry Owens (.304, 0, 7) have been getting on base at the top of the lineup.

Barry Enright (3-0, 1.10) and Juan Oramas (3-0, 2.40) have won half of the games for Hermosillo.  Oramas has whiffed 17 hitters in 15 innings.  Oscar Rivera (1-0, 1.32) is not getting the wins but providing solid starts.  Hector Galvan (2-0, 0.00) has yet to give up an earned run in two starts.  The closer is Jason Urquidez who has yet to give up a run in seven appearances and has six saves.

Venados de Mazatlan (10-5)

The Vanados has a five game winning streak to vault them into second place.  Issmael Salas (.380, 2, 10) and Bryan Peterson (.357, 1, 10) share the RBI lead.  They are also the top two run scorers on the team.

Walter Silva (2-1, 2.12) is pitching like the veteran ace the Venados have come to expect, though he has a troubling 11/8 walk to whiff ratio in 17 innings.  He is getting support from Ryan Hinson (1-1, 1.56) and Alejandro Martinez (1-0, 1.62).  Jay Jackson (2-0, 0.00) is the closer with five saves.

Algodoneros de Guasave (9-6)

Zealous Wheeler (.340, 4, 15) is on fire to start the season.  His 16 runs scored are because of his 12 walks and .470 OBA.  He also has had three stolen bases in four attempts.  Kalian Sams (.234, 3, 10) was released by two teams.

Juan Delgadillo (3-0, 2.04) and Josh Geer (2-0, 2.65) have contributed more than 50 percent of the wins.  The closer is Yoslan Herrera (0-0, 2.25).

Aguilas de Mexicali (7-8)

Mike Jacobs (.207, 5, 7) and Chris Roberson (.185, 4, 8) provide the pop.  Mike has only seven RBIs to account for his five homeruns.  More than 60 percent of his hits have gone for extra bases.  Roberson has not had a good RBI for a lead off hitter (.274) which account for the minimal RBIs for Jacobs.  Kevin Kouzmanoff (.371, 2, 8) has been their top hitter.

The two top starters for the Aguilas have been Edgar Osuna (1-1, 2.76) and Terry Doyle (1-0, 2.25).  Jeremy Accardo (2.16) has picked up two saves.  Jason Lowey (1-0, 0.00) has yet to give up a run in nine appearances, allowing only three hits in 10 innings.

Caneros de los Mochis (6-9)

The Caneros have had trouble playing on the road (1-7).  Brian Burgamy (.360, 5, 14) and Jake Fox (.232, 2, 14) share the team RBI lead.  Burgamy has walked 13 times to put his OBA at .492 allowing him to cross the plate a team leading 13 times.

Tomas Solis (1-0, 1.93) and Francisco Cordova (1-0, 1.80) are the top two early starters.  Spencer Patton (0-1, 1.80) has picked up two saves in his four appearances.  Edwin Salas (0.87) has been the big workhorse with four holds in his ten appearances.

Tomateros de Culiacan (6-9)

The Tomateros have been struggling to win at home (1-6).  Ronnier Mustelier (.226, 0, 11) is the top RBI man.  Maxwell Leon (.341, 0, 4) has four stolen bases in four attempts.

Despite their losing record Amauri Sanit (1-0, 1.27) and Francisco Campos (2-0, 1.56) have been winners.  Run support has been a problem for Alejandro Armenta (0-1, 2.76) and Andres Meza (0-1, 2.31).  The closer duties are shared by Marcus Hatley (0-1, 1.35, 3 saves) and Ryan Buchter (0-0, 1.93, 2 saves).  Nine of the fourteen outs recorded by Buchter have been strikeouts.

Yaquis de Obregon (5-10)

The Yaquis have had their struggles on the road (1-6).  Barbaro Canizares (.304, 2, 7) is the Yaquis big bat.  Christian Villanueva (.333, 2, 4) provides support.  The Yaquis are waiting for the bat of Karim Garcia (.220, 1, 5) to get hot.

Marco Carrillo (1-1, 1.89) has been the Yaquis top starter.  Derek Eitel (0-1, 0.00) has picked up two saves in eight appearances.

Mayos de Navojoa (4-10)

The bats have been pretty silent.  Abel Martinez (.327, 0, 1) and Luis Fonseca (.322, 1, 5) are the only two hitters batting over .300.  Martinez has a team leading five doubles.

Eddie Gamboa (0-1, 2.08) and Hector Velasquez (1-0, 2.70) are the top two starters for the Mayos.  Zech Zincola (0-1, 4.15) has saved two of the four Mayo wins.
