Japanese Rookies of the Year

The NPB announced their rookies of the year, both of them pitchers:

From the Yakult Swallows in the Central League you have Yasuhiro Ogawa (16-4,2.93).  He is listed at 5′7″ and throws right handed so major league scouts would certainly take a disinterest in him.  He beat out two favorites who were first round picks, Shintaro Fujinami (Hanshin Tigers, 10-6, 2.75) and Tomoyuki Sugano (Yomiuri Giants, 13-6, 3.12).

From the Rakuten Eagles in the Pacific League the rookie of the year was Takahiro Norimoto (15-8, 3.34).  At 5′10″ Norimoto is a bit on the small side for throwing right handed.  He may be the ace of the staff next year if Masahiro Tanaka is posted and signs with a major league team.  Shohei Otani (Nippon Ham Fighters), who was mostly used as a position player but pitched a bit towards the end of the season finished a distant second.

There are a number of good young pitchers percolating up to the NPB.
