Cuban Top Four Determined

The defending champion Villa Clara Orangemen were the last team to qualify for the final playoff round in Cuba.  They beat the Holquin Dogs 8-2 yesterday to clinch a spot in the last round of the playoffs.  The final eight teams played a round robin to whittle it down to four.

The other three teams are the Matanzas Crocodiles, who won the round robin by five games.  They will be joined by the Pinar del Rio Tobacco Growers, who won the Cuban championship in 2011, and the Industriales Leones, who stole the Gourriel brothers from the Sancti Spiritus Roosters.  The Industriales last won a championship in 2010.  Matanzas is the only team in the final four to have not won a championship in the last five years.  Matanzas has yet to win a championship in the Nacional Series.

The opening series will pit Matanzas against Villa Clara in a best of seven playoff.  Industriales will start their battle against Pinar del Rio the next day.  Myworld will do our best to follow the playoffs and report on them here.  If we fail in that quest you can go to for updates.
