Hot Corner Infield Prospects

This week myworld will be in Cincinnati, Dayton, Cleveland and Altoona.  Tomorrow we will be at the new Reds stadium, or at least new to myworld.  It’s been raining forever, but it appears to be dry for tomorrow.  We hope it will be as hot as some of the hot corner infield players in AAA and AA.

International League

Jesus Aguilar 1B (Indians) - Ernesto Mejia has left for Japan so the only big time corner infield hitter that is really impressing with the bat is Jesus Aguilar.  His .361 average is second in the league and his .675 slugging percentage is tops among players still in the league (J.D. Martinez is with the Tigers and Mejia will soon be in Japan with the Lions).  Jesus has seven homeruns, but many of them have not done a lot of damage as his 16 RBIs will attest.  The Venezuelan should be up with the Indians by Indian summer if he keeps popping the ball over the fence.

Pacific Coast League

Jonathan Singleton 1B (Astros) - George Springer has been called up.  Singleton would like to be next.  He leads the Pacific Coast League in homeruns with nine and RBIs with 27.  He is hitting .304 with a 1.099 OPS.  Singleton was acquired from the Phillies in the Hunter Pence trade.  The Phillies selected him in the 8th round of the 2009 draft.

C.J. Cron 1B (Angels) - Cron is third in RBIs with 24, hitting .353 with five homeruns.  Cron was selected in the first round of the 2011 draft but could be destined for a DH slot with a stiff glove for first base and little speed for the outfield.

Eastern League

Allie Stetson 1B (Pirates) - Allie was selected in the second round in the 2010 draft as a pitcher.  He spent most of his time trying to find the plate with his 100 mile per hour fastball but with little success.  The Pirates moved him to first base and he has shown a power bat.  Allie finds himself second in homeruns with six, with a .250 average, but a .368 average against lefthanders.  He hit four homeruns and drove in 9 runs in a three game stretch against Harrisburg.

Giovanny Urshella 3B (Indians) - The Colombian slapped three doubles in one game to give him eight for the season.  His average sits at .305 with four homeruns and 17 RBIs.

Texas League

Ryan Rua 3B (Rangers) - Not the best of fielders but a monster bat as evidence by his .347 average with five homeruns and 12 RBIs.  The 17th round 2011 pick has a 11 to 9 walk to whiff ratio.  He is also one of just two players with an OPS over 1.000 (1.079.

Jonathan Rodriguez 1B (Cardinals) - He had a streak of three three hit games in his last four raising his average to .338 with four homeruns and 15 RBIs.  The Puerto Rican was also a 17th round pick, but in the 2009 draft.  His .623 slugging average is second to Rua.

Southern League

Kris Bryant 3B (Cubs) - It won’t be long before his bat is with the Cubs.  Drafted in the first round of 2013 he is already raking at AA with a .298 average, five homeruns and 12 RBIs.  His .571 slugging average is third in the league.

Rangel Ravelo 1B (White Sox) - Jose Abreu is in the way of the 2010 sixth round pick.  He is hitting .371 with two homeruns and nine RBIs.  He has been criticized for his lack of power but that average is impressive.  He went on a 10 for 14 streak in his last four games with a 15/11 walk to whiff ratio putting his OBA at .506
