15 and Under - Day 5

A big upset with Panama defeating Japan to knock them out of the second round Group D competition.  Japan will play in Group E, not what they were hoping for when playing this event.  Mexico won their game to advance to the Group D division.  Each of the teams will get to participate in the second round based on won loss record and play their equivalent opponents.  Myworld will focus on the Group D games.

Panama 6 Japan 1

What a day for the Panama youth to beat the second ranked team in the world.  Didier Vargas mesmerized the Japanese bats on just two hits in seven innings and Ariel Atencio finished the game allowing only one hit in his two innings of work.  The Panama bats slapped 13 singles against the Japanese pitching staff.  They put the game out of reach in the ninth inning scoring four runs.  Miguel Amaya was the offensive team leader with three hits.

Taiwan 8 Italy 0

The pitching for Taiwan has been excellent with another no hitter against Italy.  Hsin-Chieh Lin worked five innings walking two.  Taiwan also continued to show speed on the bases, stealing seven, Chao-Ching Wan swiping three and Shao-Hua Tin two.  Taiwan advances to the second round undefeated.

New Zealand 11 South Africa 10

New Zealand survived a nine run third by South Africa to rally from a 9-3 deficit.  Connor Fitzsimons drove in three runs for New Zealand.  Kyle Glogoski got the win throwing five plus innings in relief and only allowing one run.  Glogoski also scored the go ahead run in the ninth after drawing a walk and advancing all the way home on wild pitches and ground outs.

United States 11 Germany 1

Justin Bullock did not allow a hit in his first five plus innings, and the bullpen carried the torch, allowing only one hit the rest of the game.  Germany pitchers walked ten and hit five batters in the game.  The United States advances to the second round as one of the three undefeated teams.

Mexico 9 Brazil 4

Mexico advances to the second round D group with their defeat of Brazil.  Luis Rodriguez got the win tossing five plus innings and allowing two unearned runs.  Carlos Soto went deep for Mexico, driving in three runs and Isaac Paredes bunched together three hits.

Czech Republic 14 Guatemala 3

The Czech Republic won their first game.  Dan Ondrousek was the offensive star with two hits, driving in three runs and scoring three times from the leadoff spot to churn the offensive production.  Marek Chlup and Martin Klanicka each collected three hits.  Guatemala had struck first in the top of the first with two runs but couldn’t sustain it.  Bryan Flores scored two of their three runs and collected half of their six hits, but they needed more offensive production from the other players.

Cuba 21 Hong Kong 0

Cuba’s offensive machine continued to roll, Ernesto Martinez going deep and adding a double, sharing the RBI lead with Miguel Vargas with three.  The first three hitters in the Cuban lineup crossed the plate three times and drove in two runs each.  Tomas Alonso struck out 9 of the 14 hitters he faced, giving up just two hits in his four innings of work.

Venezuela 18 Lithuania 0

Peterson Plaz threw a five inning complete game one hitter to advance Venezuela to the second round Group D.  Maximo Castillo went deep for Venezuela and Lenyn Sosa and Albert Guamaro led the way with three hits each.  Venezuela scored 17 of their 18 runs in two innings and hang on to defend their championship from a couple years ago.

Mexico 12 Czech Republic 1

In a game that was made up from the day before Mexico defeated Czech Republic.  Marco Martinez went 4 for 4 with two doubles.
