Group E

Japan 15 Australia 1

Japan would prefer not to be here, but losses to the United States and Panama knocked them to the lower group.  The number two ranked team in the world appeared to take it all out on the Australian team, waking up to transform a 1-0 pitcher’s duel after six innings into a 13-1 rout with 12 runs in their next two at bats.  Australia booted five balls creating 10 unearned runs.  In addition to the five errors, the Japanese hitters showed patience by taking 9 walks.  Yohei Takekuma was the offensive star driving in five runs with his three hits.

Brazil 11 Germany 0

Mauro Tanaka threw a five inning complete game shutout to lead Brazil over Germany.  German pitchers were wild walking 11.  Brazil scored their 11 runs collecting only four hits, three of them in the first inning.  They only needed to bat four times.

Argentina 10 Italy 8

Martin Cruz quieted the Italian bats for the last four innings pitching in relief to lead Argentina to the win.  He gave up just one run on two hits.  Lucas Stalman smashed a two run double in the sixth to give Argentina a 8-7 lead.

Brazil and Japan are the two undefeated teams in Group E at 2-0.  Australia and Argentina are tied at 1-1 while the two European teams, Germany and Italy are winless at 0-2.
