15 and Under Group E & F - Day Three

It was a busy day as they made up a couple of rainouts from Group E yesterday, limiting the Group E games to seven innings.  Japan continues to look dominate in Group E with their second consecutive shutout to remain undefeated.  The Czech Republic won their battle of the undefeateds to look like the strong team in Group F.

Group E

Japan 6 Brazil 0

Three Japanese pitchers combined for the shutout with Taisei Chiwata getting the start and going five innings.  Shu Masuda continues to be the big bat for Japan with his two hits driving in three runs.  He is second to Turang in hitting with a .600 batting average for the tournament.

Brazil 6 Australia 4

Brazil had won their opener.  Mauro Tanaka worked two innings of relief to save the victory.  Gustavo Roque drove in three runs with a single and two fielder’s choice RBIs.  Jess Williams for Australia banged out four hits from the leadoff spot.

Australia 12 Italy 8

Australia used two six run innings to keep Italy winless in the second round.  It was a game of big innings with Italy erupting for seven in the third.  Jack Dunn went 3 for 3 and Mitchell Edwards drove in three runs for Australia.

Germany 10 Italy 3

Germany had to feel good about beating their tradiitional European powerhouse.  Italy had taken a 3-0 lead but Germany combined to score nine runs in the fourth through sixth innings to run away with the game.  Niklas Rimmel pitched the full seven innings to get the win for Germany.  He allowed only one hit, but walked five and four German errors made all three runs Italy scored unearned.  Marco Cardoso drove in three runs with his two hits and Maurice Bendrien crossed the plate three times with his two hits and one walk.

Argentina 10 Germany 8

Germany was not so fortunate against Argentina, who jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and held on for the victory. Vicente Cruz pitched the last four plus innings of relief to get the win, upping his record to 3-0. He also went 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Japan looks to have the top seed of Group E sewn up at 4-0. Brazil is 3-1 with Argentina and Australia tied at 2-2. Germany is 1-3 while Italy holds the cellar at 0-4. The critical last game match is Brazil and Argentina. A win by Argentina could give them the second seed.

Group F

Czech Republic 15 New Zealand 4

In a battle of the undefeateds the Czechs showed no mercy, scoring 11 runs in the first three innings to run away with the game. Ondrej Furko drove in four runs to put him in the top RBI spot for the tournament with 14. He also pitched the first seven plus innings to get the win. Marek Chlup banged out four hits to lead the 17 hit parade.

Guateamala 12 Hong Kong 9

Late entry Guatemala improved to 3-1, shocking Hong Kong with a nine run eighth to overcome a 9-2 deficit to take the victory. Guatemala only got three hits, taking advantage of four walks, three Hong Kong errors and two hit batsman to run around the bases. Guatemala stole 10 bases, Edgar Tecu leading the race with three.

South Africa 11 Lithuania 5

South Africa won their first game of the tournament, leaving Lithuania as the lone winless team with one day remaining.  Lithuania has the Czech Republic on their schedule for the last game.  A trio of South Africans, Lance Ivan Gordon, Keagan Blaine Lazarus and Brady Conradie each finished the game with three hits.

Czech Republic has won the first seed with their 4-0 record.  Guatemala and New Zealand are each 3-1 and will battle today for the second seed.  Hong Kong and South Africa are each 1-3 while Lithuania is 0-4.
