France 3 Germany 2

Rene Leveret led off the fifth inning with a homerun and Jacques Boucheron closed out the three run outburst with an RBI double to close out the three run outburst that turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead. Three relievers came on to shut out the host German at bats, Pierrick Lemestre retiring the last five hitters to pick up the save. Luke Sommer had retired the first 12 French hitters until the Leveret blast to lead off the fifth. Two errors in the fifth inning allowed two unearned runs to cross the plate against Sommer.

Italy 12 Belgium 7

Italy scored four in the first and four in the last to defeat Belgium. Italy had a couple solo shots from Alex Sambucci and Alberto Mineo. Allessandro Vaglio led all players with three RBIs and stole two bases. Belgium got three RBIs from Thomas de Wolf and four hits from Dennis de Quint in a losing cause. Tiago de Silva struck out three of the four hitters he faced to close out the game.

Ostrava, Czech Republic

Czech Republic 5 Russia 0

The locals got eight innings of shutout ball from Martin Schneider to beat the Russians. Schneider gave up only two hits, did not allow a walk and struck out 13 in the game. Jan Tomek pitched the ninth, surrendering one hit while striking out the side. Jakub Sladek banged out three hits, including a solo homerun in the seventh to close out the scoring. Michael Ondracek collected a hit and walk that allowed him to steal three bases in the game.

Netherlands 19 Croatia 2

Roger Bernadina was on the Netherlands roster, but the Dodgers signed him up just days before the European championships. The Netherlands did not appear to need him in their 17 hit attack that included six homeruns. Gianison Boekhoudt crushed two homeruns that drove in five runs. Hainley Statia, Kalian Sams, Shawn Zarraga and Sharlon Schoop each went deep in the homer barrage. The Netherlands scored 16 runs in the first two innings with two eight spots in each inning, Statia hitting a grandslam homer in the first inning and Schoop and Boekhoudt smashing three run shots in the second inning.

Spain 15 Greece 3

Spain scored at least one run in every inning except the seventh in their rout. Antonio Noguera struck out 13 in his six innings of work. He gave up a two run homer to John Pau Koulotouros in the sixth. Oscar Angulo crossed the plate four times, one on a two run homerun in the fourth. Jesus Ustariz also homered and smacked two doubles to drive in three runs for Spain.
