European Championships - Day 7

The Netherlands and Italy continue their winning streak to set the stage for a repeat of the final from the last championship.

Spain 4 Germany 3

Spain rallied for three runs in the eighth to pull out a win against winless Germany. Franklin Taveras drove in a run with a single in the eighth inning and Daniel Sanchez tied the game with an RBI double with the go ahead run scoring on an error. Eric Gonzalez held the Germans scoreless for two innings in relief to get his second win of the tournament.

Netherlands 14 France 5

The Netherlands scored early in their defeat of France. Curt Smith and Gianison Boekhoudt went deep for the Netherlands. For Boekhoudt it was his fifth homerun of the tournament. Smith socked his fourth homerun. Rene Leverett slammed two homeruns for France, driving in four of their five runs, but the rest of the lineup remained silent. The loss dropped the record for France to 1-3. Netherlands remains one of two teams who are undefeated.

Italy 9 Czech Republic 1

Not a good day for the hosts. Italy got five innings of seven it ball from Frailyn Florian and three shutout innings of relief from Filippo Crepaldi to remain undefeated. Juan Carlos Infante scored three times from the leadoff spot to spark the Italian offense. The Czechs dropped to 1-3.

In the second division games Sweden got their first win, a 2-0 shutout over Greece. Joakim Klassen pitched the complete game shutout. Great Britain downed Croatia 9-0. Jacob Esch was perfect for seven innings and Croatia got their one and only hit in the ninth inning. With the win Great Britain won the second division at 3-0. The other three teams finished 1-2.

Italy and the Netherlands will fight for supremacy tomorrow, but regardless of the outcome the two will battle for the championship on Sunday.
