Kuroda Wins First for Carp

Hiroki Kuroda won his opening day start pitching seven innings of shutout ball in the Hiroshima Carp’s 2-1 win over the Yakult Swallows. He struck out five and walked one, allowing just five hits. Jesus Guzman scored a run in the fifth after drawing a two out walk and drove in a run in the seventh with a double. Deunte Heath pitched the ninth to get the save despite adding some gray hair on his manager by giving up two hits.

Two teams have started the season 3-0. The Hanshin Tigers won their first game without a walk off hit beating the Chunichi Dragons 10-8. The Seibu Lions won their third game in a row with a 5-4 win over the Orix Buffaloes. The Dragons and Buffaloes have started the season 0-3.
