Astros Sign Cuban Quiala

The Astros signed Cuban Yoanis Quiala. He only played one season in the Cuban professional league during the 2012-2013 season with the Holquin Dogs. The upside to him is he is young (22) and has a mid-90s fastball. He pitched in both a starter and relief capacity in Cuba but the Astros will convert him to a starter. Since he is covered by the international salary cap and Houston had exceeded their 2014/2015 cap the bonus had to be $250,000 or less. He still must under go a physical before the signing becomes official.

MLB rumors and Scout.com reported on this signing.
