Jimmy Rollins/Derrek Lee and Uganda

Jimmy Rollins is another ballplayer who had an interesting offseason breaking in a new glove for the 2012 season.  He broke in the new glove teaching kids in Uganda how to be better infielders.  He was motivated to travel to Uganda after he read the story about Uganda being denied a Little League World Series appearance because of visa issues.  Many of the kids who played on the team could not prove that they were 12 years of age.

Derrek Lee was also in Uganda assisting Jimmie with the baseball instruction.  He was impressed with their ability to play the game.  You can read the story here: http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/7471544/philadelphia-phillies-shortstop-jimmy-rollins-sees-potential-ugandan-little-leaguers?eleven=twelve

So even though they may have been disappointed about their inability to play in the Little League World Series last year, that disappointment brought them Jimmie Rollins, Derrek Lee and opportunity.  As the Brooklyn Dodgers used to say every year after they lost to the New York Yankees in World Series after World Series “There is always next year.”
