Aragua to Represent Venezuela in Series del Caribe

Aragua mashed Magallanes 8-2 to win their best of seven series in six. They did it with the long ball, Alfredo Marte hitting the first of his two homeruns in the opening frame, a two run shot that would give Aragua an early 2-0 lead. Carlos Sanchez hit a two run blast in the seventh and Alfredo Marte made it back to back with a solo shot to put the game out of reach 6-2.

Dariel Alvarez had four hits for Aragua and Alberto Callapso three, including an RBI single in the ninth. Carlos Sanchez scored three times, ahead of the Marte homer in the first, on his own shot in the seventh and after being hit by a pitch scored on the Callapso single in the ninth. The Tigres collected 14 hits in the game, leaving nine runners on base.

Each team used seven pitchers to get through the game, none of them lasting more than 4.1 innings. This is the second straight championship loss for Magallanes after being in the Series del Caribe the previous two years.
