Adelaide Takes First Bite in Australian Semi-Final Playoffs

Travis Demeritte went deep twice to lead the Adelaide Bite to a 6-4 opening semi-final playoff round win over the Canberra Cavalary in a best of three series. The ravenous Demeritte actually took four big bites in the game. His first was an RBI double in the second inning to tie the game at 2-2. He was given a free bite after taking a bases loaded walk in the third to up the lead to 4-2. His last two bites were solo shots in the sixth and eighth to keep the lead intact. Travis finished the day a perfect 3 for 3 with four runs driven in.

Ryan Miller hit a two run homer for the Cavalry in the second to take an early 2-0 lead. Brian Grening could not hold the lead, giving up five runs in his five innings of work.

Tom Brice contributed three hits for Adelaide, scoring twice and driving in one run. Loek Van Mil retired all seven hitters he faced to pick up the save.

The winner of this series faces the Brisbane Bandits for the Australian championship. The champion represents Australia in the Asian Series, if they have a sponsor at the end of the season this year. Last year there was no Asian Series. Australia, represented by Canberra were the last defending champs.
