Israel Pounds Great Britain to be Last WBC Qualifier

The game was scoreless until the fifth. A Scott Burcham single drove Brit starter Spencer Kreisberg from the game. Al Knowles got behind Blake Gailen in the count and he drove a 3-1 pitch over the right field fence to give the Israelis a 2-0 lead. After a walk and a new pitcher Ryan Lavarnway drove a ball over the left field fence on the second pitch from Rei Martinez to give the Israelis a 4-0 lead.

Zach Borenstein would drive in a run for Israel in the sixth with a triple. Cody Decker rocked a solo blast in the seventh to up the score to 6-0. Israel would finish off the scoring with a three spot in the eighth after Great Britain had scored their only run in the top of the inning.

Lavarnway added an RBI single in the eighth to give himself three RBIs in the game. Jason Marquis threw four no hit innings, striking out five in his start to perplex the British hitters. Josh Zeid continued the no hitter through the seventh inning. Great Britain finally got their first two hits in the eighth inning when they scored their lone run.

Israel will now go to Seoul to compete against South Korea, Netherlands and Taiwan in Pool B
