In Japan Series Hawks and Carp Battle to a Tie

Japan only plays 12 innings. The subways close after that and fans need to get home. They don’t play until they have a winner. In the first game of the Japan Series the game ended in a 2-2 tie. It is as if they never played the game, though I think both teams get a half win for their efforts.

Ryosuke Kikuchi hit a solo shot for the Carp in the first inning to give them an early 1-0 lead. Ryuhei Matsuyama drove in the second run in the first. The Carp would not score for the next eleven innings. The Hawk bullpen threw eight shutout innings to keep the game close.

The Hawks battled back for two in the fifth. In the Central League they have no DH. That left Orlando Despaigne out of the lineup since the game was being played in Hiroshima. He did pinch hit in the fifth and drove in one of the two runs with a single. A second run scored on an error.

They play again tomorrow.
