Peoria Wins AFL on Davidson Walkoff

Peoria won the AFL championship, defeating the Salt River Rafters 3-2 in ten innings. The leading homerun hitter in the AFL, Braxton Davidson slugged a solo homerun in the tenth inning to clinch the victory. Peoria had to score two runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game. Both scored with Keston Hiura batting. The first scored on a wild pitch and the second scored on a Hiura single.

Pitching was the story early for the Rafters with Jordan Yamamoto pitching four shutout innings. It was difficult for him to find the plate walking five and allowing two hits, but he kept the runners from scoring. Jesus Tinoco followed with two shutout innings. Monte Harrison drove in the first run for the Rafters with a single in the second inning and Daniel Johnson made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the fourth inning.

Keston Hiura was voted the MVP of the game. Six different bullpen pitchers shutout the Rafters for the final six innings.
