United States Battles for Gold in Pan Am Games

The United States has been dominating the Pan Am games, scoring in double digits in the 18 and under division. The only team that has scored within seven runs of them has been Panama which lost to the United States team 9-8. The United States has beaten Honduras 16-0, Peru 26-0, Brazil 15-5, Dominican Republic 13-6, Canada 11-2, Venezuela 12-1 and Nicaragua 12-3. Cuba was in the tournament but did not advance to the Super Round, which shows how far their talent has fallen. They were in a different pool than the United States.

The United States team is full of potential first round draft choices. Can they be better than the 2009 team? Below are some of the players from that 2009 team:

Bryce Harper OF
Manny Machado 3B/SS
Nick Castellanos RF
Kevin Gausman RHP
Robby Ray LHP
Jameson Taillon RHP

Harper, Taillon and Machado went 1-2-3 in the 2010 draft. Karsten Whitson went ninth but did not have a major league career. Gausman was a first round pick in 2012 after attending LSU. The United States still shows it has young talent still worth scouting. Of course, most of the talented 18 year old Dominicans are playing in the United States.
