Heroes Sweep Wyverns to Earn Spot in KBO Finals

The Kiwoom Heroes swept the defending champions in the best of five series to earn the right to play the first place Doosan Bears. The Bears finished second the last two years but were KBO champions in 2015 and 2016.

The Heroes blasted the Wyverns 10-1 in the third game. They scored 9 runs in the third through fifth innings. Jung-Hoo Lee and Seong-Moon Song each contributed three hits and two RBIs to lead the Hero offense. Gyu-Min Kim also had three hits but led the team with three RBIs. Erick Jokisch gave up just one run but was one out from pitching the requisite five innings to get the win. That went to Woo-Jin Ahn, who got the last out of the fifth to prevent a big inning for the Wyverns.

Wyvern starter Henry Sosa only lasted three innings. He gave up three runs on five hits. Wyvern hitting star Choi Jeong finished the series 0-12 with two walks. He was tied for second with teammate Jamie Romak in homeruns with 29.

The Heroes and the Bears will play a seven game series. The Heroes lost in the finals in 2014 to the Samsung Lions, their only appearance in a KBO championship series.
