Bears Even Korean Series with Dinos

The Doosan Bears evened their series against the NC Dinos at one apiece. After jumping out to an early 5-1 lead they withstood a rally by the Dinos in the ninth to hang on 5-4. Chris Flexen got credit for the win, working six innings and allowing just one run. Koo Chang-mo took the loss for the Dinos, also working six innings but giving up three runs, two of them earned.

An error by third baseman Park Suk-min in the second inning opened the gates for the Dinos to score two runs. Park got some retribution in the home half when he doubled and scored on a single by Kwon Hee-dong to halve the lead. After the second inning it was all Dinos until the ninth.

Kim Jae-ho went deep to lead off the fourth to make it 3-1. The Dinos had an opportunity to come back in the home half, loading the bases with one out, but a fly ball to right was not deep enough as Yang Eui-ji was called out at home trying to tag up from third. Kim Jae-ho drove in a Bears run in the eighth on an RBI single to elevate the lead to 4-1. A lead off homerun by Jose Miguel Fernandez in the ninth gave the Bears a 5-1 lead.

The Dinos failed to quit, loading the bases with one out on a double, single and walk. Aaron Altherr, who was the hero the day before with his three run homer singled into right field to drive in one run. Kang Jin-sung followed with a single to drive in two more and the Dinos were down by just one with runners on first and second with one out. Kim Min–gyu came on in relief to replace Lee Young-ha and retired the last two hitters on a strikeout and ground out to end the game.

The bottom of the lineup came through for the Bears accounting for seven of their 10 hits, scoring four of their five runs and driving in all but one of their runs. Of course, Jose Miguel Fernandez is usually not listed as one of the last four hitters in the lineup.
