Cuban Playoff Update - Poor Stallion Fielding Give Orangemen Victory

The Orangemen took 11 innings but they finally overcame Alfredo Despaigne and the Granma Stallions 5-4, taking advantage of a couple poor fielding plays to escape with the victory.  Despaigne had launched a 3-run homer in the bottom of the eighth off reliever Yolexis Ulacia to tie the game at 4-4.  Robelio Carrillo had gone the first six innings for the Orangemen and shut the Stallions bats down on one run and four hits.  He had chosen to walk Despaigne the first two times he faced him and then with a 4-0 lead struck him out to lead off the sixth.  Unfortuantely, Yordanis Samon followed the Despaigne whiff with a solo blast to ruin the shutout.  Ulacia did not have the luxury of walking Despaigne with runners on first and second.

The Orangemen turned a Despaigne fielding error in the 11th into the go ahead run to win the game 5-4.  Andy Sarduy had started the rally with a one out double.  Sarduy had a 2-run single in the second inning to give the Orangemen a 2-0 lead.  A Ramon Tamayo error in the sixth allowed the Orangemen to score two unearned runs and take a 4-0 lead.  Misael Siverio got credit for the win by pitching four innings of shutout relief, giving up only three hits.

Villa Clara now leads the series two games to one.
