Cuban Playoff Update - Tigers Upset Las Tunas to Advance
Myworld will be traveling to Pittsburgh Monday morning so we thought we would take care of the Cuban playoff report tonight. The Ciego de avila Tigers advanced to the second round, defeating the Las Tunas Woodcutters 4-1 behind the complete game pitching of Yander Guevera. Yorbis Borroto hit a 2-run homer in the second inning to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead and Lisdey Diaz hit a solo shot in the seventh to give the Tigers an insurance run. Guevera retired 15 batters in a row after a leadoff double from Andres Quiala.
The second round will see the top two teams in the Occidental Division, Matanzas and Industriales square off. The Industriales were champions in 2010 and 2006. The Oriental Division will see the bottom two teams square off in the Granma Stallions and Ciego de Avila Tigers.
