Top Seeds Fall in SEC
The two top seeds with byes, LSU and South Carolina took a tumble yesterday.
Mississippi State Bulldogs 3 LSU Tigers 2
After trouncing Arkansas in a mild upset two days ago, 9-1 the Bulldogs pulled a bigger upset with their 3-2 win over top seeded LSU. Chris Stratton got the win. He gave up a 2-run single to Mason Katz in his six innings of work that tied the game at 2-2. Demarcus Henderson broke the tie in the sixth with an RBI single, scoring Mitch Slauter who had doubled in the inning. Caleb Reed and Jonathan Holder tossed three innings of perfect relief to close out the game, Holder striking out two of the three hitters he faced to notch the save.
Vanderbilt Commodores 3 South Carolina Gamecocks 2
In the eighth inning Mike Yastrzemski laid down a squeeze bunt on a 1-2 count to drive in the go ahead run and lead the Commodores to a 3-2 upset win over the second seeded Gamecocks. Vince Conde had led the inning off with a double and moved to third on a sacriifice bunt. Tanner English smoked a bases loaded 2-run single in the second inning to give the Gamecocks an early 2-0 lead. Conde drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Yastrzemski scored from second in the sixth on a Spencer Navin single.
Ole Miss 2 Arkansas Razorbacks 0
Mike Mayers pitched seven innings of shutout ball and Brett Huber finished it off with two more innings to eliminate Arkansas from the SEC tournament. They could only score one run in the two games they played. Zach Kirksey drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and also scoring a run on a Sikes Orvis ground out.
Auburn 3 Georgia 2
Justin Bryant hit his fourth homer of the year, a solo shot and Daniel Koger tossed five plus innings to eliminate the Georgia Bulldogs from the tournament. In addition to the solo shot Justin got the last four outs to get the save, giving up one hit and two walks to make things interesting in the ninth. With the bases loaded Colby May lined out to end the game.
Kentucky and Florida did not play after winning yesterday. They will both battle the undefeated teams in the tournament.
